Dying for Death Cab

Last night, I went to a show that can only be described as magical. Death Cab for Cutie, starring front man Ben Gibbard, gave an unforgettable performance at the Williamsburg Waterfront.

Let me begin by saying that Death Cab for Cutie has been my number one favorite band since eighth grade. I can boast about having all the albums or knowing the lyrics to every song and even all of the Postal Service projects, but Death Cab couldn’t possibly warrant such bravado or competition. This concert was for lovers, for friends, for strangers; every lyric that was sung came from the heart, not memory.

Frightened Rabbit opened at 6:00. I only know a few of their songs but they were great live and are certainly worth taking a closer look at: think Mumford and Sons meets Arcade Fire. My friend and I sat by the waterfront, laying in the grass and enjoying the spectacular view of Manhattan (which felt backwards to me, being from New Jersey) while listening to their songs. Hipsters, bros, 20somethings, and everyone in between were sipping drinks and sampling food from Egg, anxiously waiting to join the small crowd in the pit and hear their favorite songs.
