Tucked away in the depths of Red Hook, Baked is off the beaten track. After following a rainbow of subway lines and trekking through the neighbourhood, I arrived to a blood orange and peach ice tea. Any feelings of fatigue were instantly assuaged.
Baked’s profile speaks far bigger than its small, retro-themed store. Opened in 2005 as one of the first outlets in the neighbourhood, it is now well settled in the tight-knit community of Red Hook. A crowd of regulars, made up of 9-5ers as well as those spearheading the area’s artistic renewal, flood the bakery in the morning for their fill of coffee and possibly a spot of something sweet. But given the tempting arrangement of treats in the window, I suspect that a sweet becomes just as integral to the morning routine as the coffee. Read the complete post »
