Whether you’re looking for a relaxed, unpretentious place to browse for vintage goods or scrambling last minute to make up a decent costume, the GreenFlea Marketis the place to go. Tucked behind the chain-link fences of a school, the market blends in so well with the local neighborhood that I initially walked right past it, but as I walked in I realized it was huge. The stalls weave through a street-corner playground, where the brightly colored slides blend in perfectly with the crazy capes, carpets, and miscellaneous antique china sets on display. Vendors serving home-baked goods greeted me at the entrance, while others offered quirky selections of used books (some more than a century old, and almost all under $10), postal service relics (full packet of international stamps for $5, and special-edition releases from the ’50s), and all kinds of vintage clothing, jewelry and furniture.
