Animal lovers and New York socialites alike came out to drink, dance, bid, and mingle at this year’s ASPCA Young Friends Benefit on October 11th. Crazy stuff goes down on the train!
LJK: My friend once was once petsitting a family friend’s dog. While the person was out of town the dog died. My friend wasn’t sure what to do with the body so she decided to take it to the vet. She put it in a duffel bag and rode with it on the subway. When leaving the subway, someone asked her if they wanted help carrying her bag. She said “sure” and then they ran away with it.
CL: Once I was on the uptown 1, sitting next to an older gentlemen and his friend. They were coming back from a historical society meeting, and the older man began recounting about the four times he saw Marilyn Monroe in person. He talked about how she was stunning when she was all dressed up at a premiere, but once he saw her in a gourmet burger restaurant without makeup, and almost didn’t recognize her except for her husband, Arthur Miller.
MK: I once sat next to a man in fishing clothes who started telling me all about his cousin who was a famous photographer. This cousin is best known for his portrait of Julia Roberts and a Bad Eagle, and there are books about him at the NYPL. After listening to his ramblings for a good 30 minutes, I rushed home to google Ms. Roberts’ infamous photo, and it doesn’t exist!
