Where’s the NYC tech boom? Craines sounded the alarm, pointing out that, while Silicon Valley now boasts over 25 tech startups valued at over $1 billion, New York City is home to a grand total of none of those. Gilt, Seamless, and Tumblr might not be pulling in the big bucks (half a mil is soo embarrassing), but we’re glad to have ‘em anyways…

More snow is on the way!

It’s been a good year for  NYC– 2012 marks the year with the fewest murders on record.  Let’s hope it’s the fewest off the record too…

We all have our favorite transit apps, but the MTA has a new one. Could this finally be the end to 20 minute waits underground?

In a headline all too familiar, a man was pushed to his death and killed by a 7 train yesterday.

And in other MTA-related fatalities, a bus killed a woman in Midtown.

On a happier note, two Big Daddy’s regulars got engaged at the diner! Never underestimate bacon’s romantic qualities…

Cozy up in front of one of Gothamist’s favorite fireplaces tonight.

The New York Times reports: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority voted unanimously on Wednesday to raise the base fare on subways and buses by a quarter, to $2.50, and increase the cost of a 30-day MetroCard by $8, to $112. The prices will be increased in March 2013.

CNN reports the president appointed Joe Biden to lead the White House’s gun control initiatives in the wake of the Newtown shootings.
