Frozen Hot Chocolate At Popbar!
What’s downtown, sweet, and loved all over? Popbar, a store with décor reminiscent of a froyo place, a set-up like an Italian gelateria, and an offering of Popsicles containing all of the above. Located in the West Village, part of Popbar’s charm is its quiet location just off Bleecker Street, a one way street with little to no traffic and beautiful architectural design in both its restaurants and its buildings. Popbar itself plays into this tranquil atmosphere, its décor light, pastel, and minimal. That said, Popbar’s pale orange walls and all-glass front are still hip, and look to attract both “old” and young alike. From young families to graduate students, Popbar is popular with the entire spectrum of the downtown crowd, making it the perfect destination for a Valentine’s Day treat.

Baluchi’s in Park Slope
Baluchi’s has five locations in the city, but their three-year-old outpost in Park Slope stands out among the lot. The décor is breathtaking: a soothing fountain full of rose petals welcomes you as you come in from the cold; gorgeous, colorful glass lanterns hang throughout the romantic space; and the massive, intricate wooden bar was carved in India.
But it’s not just the décor that will stimulate your senses at Baluchi’s; the extensive menu of Northern Indian cuisine is unique among Indian restaurant menus here in New York. In addition to the classics that you see everywhere (tandoori main courses, briyanis, and curries), they also have a robust selection of mouthwatering vegetarian dishes, a unique drink menu of house-created specialties, and an amazing selection of appetizers, which is where we started our meal.

New York, we are two snows in. Santa is holding court at Macy’s, , the Rockefeller Center tree is being decorated as we speak, and on Fifth Avenue stores are unveiling their holiday windows decorated with everything from yeti to totally not played-out tributes to the Jazz Age. Anyone still holding on to dreams of crispy air, blazers as outerwear, and autumn leaves needs to get it together: winter is here and it will be here for a while. Thankfully, our fair city comes equipped with plenty of attractions and fun ways to make the best of the time of year when the sun abandons us for Australia, and the best of these ways is ice skating!

Is the Sandy-era mildew in your apartment still too nasty to have company over? Are you whiny about there still not being a subway line across the park? Are you not cute?

Disiac Lounge lives up to its name. Anat, the Israeli owner, describes her restaurant and bar as “spicy, sexy and uplifting – if you know what I mean”. She is energetic, bright, and extroverted, intercepting waiters and running food and cocktails across the restaurant. She pours her passion and personality into Disiac.

In Eating Out NYC, KT&RL discuss phallic foods, sumptuous seduction, and sexmex cuisine. If you have an appetite for naughty, we’re here to feed you.
So last night was… spicy. You were at some Jeff Stark Nonsense sweaty dance party in Bushwick, grinding all up on that bisexual guy who fell over on you, pretty much gave you a concussion, and then took you home for some foolin’ around to make up for it. It didn’t really make up for it.
But the worst experiences make the best stories. Now that it’s 11 A.M, you’re awake enough to steal some roommate’s shoes, get the hell out of there, and meet your friends for brunch. They only saw like 30% of your drunk sluttery! Catch-up sesh, NOW!
So, necessary traits of the ‘morning after’ brunch: (1) kinda off the beaten path, with low chances of running into anyone you wouldn’t want seeing you with glitter and eyeliner smeared around your face (2) easy on your shriveled, dehydrated, painfully hung-over eyes (3) serves food you can eat with ketchup and (4) strong breakfast cocktails.

Angel’s Share is THE Thursday night date place. Go upstairs to the restaurant Village Yokocho and you will find the entrance to the left – an unassuming door. The noise level is conducive to a pleasant tete-a-tete. But don’t make that more than four tetes – it’s against house rules. Most of the seating is at tables with a waitress, but if you prefer, there is a bar. Read the complete post »
