Yesterday’s storm delivered all the drama those forboding clouds promised. Shortly after 10 A.M., a Brooklyn building caught fire, likely ignited by lightning. Though several other buildings in the area were struck, only 665 New York Avenue caught fire, and the flames grew to such an intensity that two dozen of the responding firefighters were taken to the hospital, mostly for minor injuries.
These were not the only casualties in yesterday’s ‘end of the world’ storm that the National Weather Service warned New Yorkers about last night. A man was killed by lightning in Cobble Hill, and Clueless was cancelled at Brooklyn Bridge Park, to the disappointment of many summer movie-goers.
