Amy Eats…at Smashburger

Everyone loves burgers and everyone has their own ways of enjoying them. I’ve never realized how many different burger joints have been popping up all around the city. It will take awhile to try them all, but before I start on that endeavor, I wanted to try this burger place in Brooklyn. I don’t travel to Brooklyn that often, so I wanted to make sure I got a taste of what Brooklyn has to offer. For lunch, my friend and I decided to venture into this new burger place, Smashburger.

The atmosphere is somewhere between Shake Shack and Five Guys. An average Smashburger costs about $5 and the Big Smashburgers average $6. You can get a single patty burger at Shake Shack for a similar price but the double patty is at least $7. Once you start adding more toppings and sides, it’s not a cheap meal. But at Smashburger you can get everything you want, including shakes, for a reasonable price.

There is a wide variety of burgers you can choose from. I got the classic Smashburger with cheese and added Smash Fries, which are regular crispy French Fries tossed with rosemary, olive oil, and garlic. The portion size is perfect to accompany either a single or double patty. The best part is that these special fries are only $1.99. Smash Burger also has regular fries, sweet potato Smash fries, haystack onions, and fried pickles. All of these sides cost less than $2. I must say that I am hundred percent satisfied with their side choices, as I’m a big fan of good French fries.

Smashburger offers different specialty burgers like the Colorado Burger, which comes with grilled, fresh mild green chilies, melted cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo on a spicy chipotle bun. If you are in the mood to be adventurous, you must try this burger. Other burger choices are the All American with Cheese, Mushroom Swiss, BBQ, Bacon & Cheddar, and Spicy Baja. For all of the burgers, you have the choice of getting the Smash (single patty) or the Big Smash (double patty). If none of these burgers sound appealing, you can also create your own burger, which you have the choice of getting a small smash, smash, or big smash for a really good price.

If you are in the mood for something else, you must also try their all-white meat crispy or grilled chicken sandwiches. For these, you can also create your own chicken sandwich. Other options include salads and hot dogs. Smashburger also offers veggie burgers and kids meals. For less than $4, you can get their Häagen-Daz shakes.

My favorite part of Smashburger is that you will be guaranteed to walk out of the restaurant fully fed and satisfied. The price is definitely more reasonable than most of the burger joints in New York City or in Brooklyn. They use quality meat (100% Angus Beef), vegetables, and other ingredients which is crucial. The service is better than many of the chain restaurants and last but not least, everything tastes good and meets my expectations.

I hope more Smashburgers open up around the city. It’s the place to go if you want cheap, but fresh, satisfying, and real burger.
