Symposium

544 W 113th St (between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave). 212-865-1011. Daily 12pm-10pm. 1 to 110th. Average entrée $12.
With white-washed walls, boarded floors, and a friendly wait staff, the Greek themed restaurant offers an escape from impersonal eateries nearby. The menu features dishes that combine exotic and simple flavors to produce multilayered entrees. The saganaki is a cheesy starter that is the restaurant’s best appetizer. The pastitsio, a macaroni dish baked with ground meat, is a customer favorite, while the red snapper filet, coated with an egg-lemon sauce, is a favorite among seafood lovers. For dessert, the traditional Greek baklava is excellent, as is the kataifi (shredded wheat and nuts flavored with honey).
